MOTHER'S DAY MESSAGE
Will you hear from your children on Mother's Day?
I NEVER missed a Mother’s Day...
Whether I was happy with our relationship, angry, or so busy with my chaotic life that weeks went by without connecting, on Mother’s Day everything stopped.
It was part of the essential fabric of my being to honor my Mother for giving me this gift of life.
How I wish I had one more opportunity to look into my mother’s eyes, hold her hand, and learn more about her life and experiences.
Here’s a memory so vivid in my mind:
I always left my assigned papers for school to the night before. I finally finished writing it in my messy left-handed writing, and I was so tired.
My mother came into my room, took my paper, and said ‘go to sleep.’ I fell asleep to the rhythmcic sound of my mother typing (she typed with one finger). When I awoke in the morning, my paper was on my desk.
Do I even remember what that paper was about? NO.
But I will always remember the sound of that typewriter.
What can we do to honor ourselves for the gift of life we gave to our children?
Plant: Three years ago i began this tradition. Having my hands in the soil and carefully placing fragile, colorful flowers in pots, watering them and nurturing them, took up time, was soothing, and gave me a great sense of accomplishment.
Write about a favorite memory, or the day of her birth, or looking at him for the first time with a heart swelling from love and filled with the best intentions...
Enjoy photos of special moments and good times. Keep these in your heart. They are REAL.
Reach out: There are so many parents in our situation from groups or our newsletters. Check in with someone.
Visit a nursing home: Many are alone on Mother’s Day. Listen to someone else’s story.
Self - Care: What might soothe you? A massage, a book, going to the movies, an art museum, taking a yoga class? What might be comforting and uplift your spirit?
Remember this:
Grief is a testament to the depth of our love and the bonds we cherish.
Grief is more than feelings of loss:
It’s a reflection of the profound connection that continues to resonate in our hearts.
Please share with me what you will do, or your special memories... Barbra@BarbraDrizin.com
